GCSE joy for Hope Valley College students

Sixty-six per cent of students gained five or more A* to C grades, including English and maths, with 37 per cent achieving at least three A/A* grades.

Acting Principal Paul Dearden commented: “Once again the students of Hope Valley College have excelled in their GCSE examinations and we are delighted that the college, collectively, has once again exceeded the national average across all key benchmarking and performance indicators.

“It is disappointing that some of our students’ achievements are no longer recognised by government tables, but despite this the results achieved by our students are impressive - for more than a third of our students to have achieved at least three A/A* grades is truly staggering - and reflects a pattern of strong academic achievement and individual progress.

“We are particularly delighted that all progress measures demonstrate that our students continue to do much better than the national average, which is evidenced not only in the excellent numbers of very high grades, but also in the breadth of achievement across all abilities.”

Fourteen per cent of students at the college received a minimum of eight GCSEs at A/A* grade, with 60 per cent achieving at least one A/A* grade.

In addition to the college’s overall success there were a number of exceptional individual performances. In total ten students achieved ten or more A/A* grades with Mia Balmforth gaining 12 top grades, Milo Edwardes, Megan Foster, Theo Leadbeater, Anousa Parkin, Heather Radcliffe and Katy Snow all achieved 11 A/A* grades, while Beth Glaysher, Jack Heath and Joe Taylor all achieved ten GCSEs at A/A* grade.

There was also a broad range of unique achievements including Saskia Callaghan-Barber gaining A*, A and B in three modern foreign languages and Mia Balmforth and Katy Snow gaining A*s in Astronomy.
