Future of disused Buxton water bottling site remains unclear

There are still no plans for the former Nestlé Waters bottling site on Station Road, Buxton, which has stood vacant for four years.

In February, the Advertiser reported how Buxton Civic Association, along with other groups including Vision Buxton, Buxton Town Team and Transition Buxton, had put forward the idea of a new hospital base on the site.

A spokesman for Nestlé Waters said this week: “At present we are still listening to a number of different views and ideas for the site and continue to work closely with High Peak Borough Council, to find a good solution for the future of the site that would benefit the local community.”

Speaking in the spring, a spokesman for Nestlé said: “We will now be taking time to review these internally and to have an initial discussion with High Peak Borough Council, before setting out our plans of how to move forward with the site.”

While some have welcomed the idea of a new hospital for the site, others do not want to see it used for medical facilities and believe such plans are not well thought through.

One reader said previously: “Surely Buxton is congested enough without adding a hospital in the middle of it.

“The ideal site for a hospital would be the old college site in Harpur Hill.

“Come on University of Derby, do something worthwhile for the community. Get a hospital built on your waste ground.”
