Free fleece toppers will be issued on a first come first serve basis, to anyone over the age of 60 or registered disabled, attending one of the special testing days being held at fire stations throughout Derbyshire.

The fire service will be coming to Bakewell Fire Station, on Buxton Road, on March 12, from 9.30am to 2pm.

Prior to testing, blanket owners will be required to sign an acceptance form confirming they are happy for Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service to dispose of their blanket should it fail the test.

A spokesman said: “Take a big step towards sleeping safely at night and pull the plug on your unsafe electric blankets.”
