FLOOD ALERT: Warning in Derbyshire as rivers rise

The latest updates from the government issue warnings to be aware that rivers may break their banks in Derbyshire.

An alert was issued at Lower Dove Brooks and Egginton Brook this morning, with the current level at the Sutton Mill river gauge is 1.516 metres and 0.878 metres at the Horsebottom river gauge.

River levels are steady on the Hilton Brook with flooding possible this morning, said the Environment Egency's flood warning website.

Another alert has been issued for the River Derwent and tributaries from Rowsley to the RIver Trent.

Flooding is possible for low-lying agricultural land and roads in Church Wilne, Draycott and Wilne Lane between Draycott and Sawley.

"River levels are rising. Heavy rainfall is forecast over the next 6 hours," said the Environment Agency website.

Flooding is also possible along the RIver Erewash from tributaries at Kirkby-in-Ashfield to Attenborough, and flooding of roads possible in the Pinxton area including the Pinxton Wharf access road, Langley Mill, Ilkeston, Stapleford and the recreation area at Sandiacre.

The River Amber is rising near Ambergate with flooding possible as mire heavy rainfall is forecast over the next six hours.

And the River Wye is rising near Bakewell and Ashford with the latest update at 8.52 this morning saying flood alerts continue.

Over the past 12 hours there has been 8.4 millimetres of rain in the area which has raised the river levels overnight. Weather conditions are currently dry but further rainfall is forecast over the next 12 hours in the form of a small rain band and isolated heavy showers.
