Five weeks of delays ahead for M1 motorists

Motorists are being warned about five weeks of delays ahead of road works on the M1.

The works will take place on the M1 over bridge at junction 27, starting on August 8.

Highways organisation, Via East Midlands, has taken on the management of highways and fleet management services on behalf of Nottinghamshire County Council.

It is taking on day-to-day operational work and one of its forthcoming projects will be to upgrade the crash barrier on the junction over the M1. The work is being carried out by Tarmac on behalf of Via.

It will also be carrying out road resurfacing on the A608 Mansfield Road towards Underwood as part of the works.

During week one, the works will involve the over bridge and the A608 coming under a lane closure on all approaches including the motorway slip roads.

During the second week, starting on August 15, the traffic management will remain but the A608 from junction 27 will be fully closed for resurfacing works which will be all day and night for a week until August 20.

From August 20, until the duration of the roadworks, the traffic management will then revert to lane closures.

Principal engineer, Paul Shacklock, at Via East Midlands, said: “We have written to local residents and businesses to give them advance warning of these roadworks. We thank people in advance for their patience and hope the finished results to enhance that busy junction will be worthwhile in the long term. We have timed these works for the holidays to minimise disruption as far as possible.

“Traffic marshals will be in the vicinity of the junctions throughout the day and night to give advice on access and works progress. We also remind people to take care during these works and observe all signs and instructions.”
