Fined for drunken behaviour

A member of the public was parked on High Street in Buxton on May 24 when Christopher Alan Hotchin got in the passenger side of the vehicle, High Peak Magistrates’ Court heard on Monday.

He told the driver to “drive him away”, prosecutor Jennifer Fitzgerald said, but they refused and dragged him out of their car.

A second man then appeared clutching his head and looking dazed and Hotchin then tried to gain access to High Street News, but the door was locked.

A scuffle between him and the second man then took place before police arrived.

Hotchin, 40, of Fairfield Road, admitted being drunk and disorderly.

James Riley, defending, said: “It is an unusual case and the defendant accepts he was in drink.

“He was approached by someone he doesn’t know who said he was going to kill him so he was running away.”

Hotchin was given an 18-month conditional discharge, and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £15 penalty surcharge.
