Farmer’s memories help raise £1,000 for hospice

Sales of a book penned by a 92-year-old Peak farmer have raised £1,000 for Blythe House Hospice.

In ‘When The Elephants Came To Whaley Bridge’, Geoff Morten shares his memories of Whaley Bridge in the 1930s.

A spokesperson for the Chapel-en-le-Frith hospice said: “As he had lived above one of Blythe House Hospice’s shops in Whaley Bridge as a child, Geoff very generously decided that it seemed only fitting that all profits from the book’s sales were donated to the hospice.”

A second book will cover Geoff’s farming experiences and memories of the local area from around 1945 onwards.

Geoff thanked Judy Brown for her help in transcribing both books.
