Emergency sewer works are due to start on the main road through High Lane this weekend.

There will be temporary traffic lights on the A6 Buxton Road, outside the Bulls Head pub, from 7pm on Friday September 21 until Monday October 1.

United Utilities said its engineers would be on site 24 hours a day, seven days a week, in order to minimise the disruption to road users.

It said the work had involved careful planning due to the size and depth of the sewer, and the close proximity of other essential utility services in the highway.

United Utilities engineer Barry Holland said: “There’s a never a good time to carry out roadworks on such a major route but it’s essential that we get this sewer repaired which is flooding a local business.

“We’ve committed to work double shifts and over the weekends so that we can get in and out as quickly as possible.

"I want to apologise in advance for any disruption and thank people for their patience.”
