Drink-drive crash motorist is banned from the road

A drink-driver who was involved in a collision with a parked car has been banned from the road for 18 months.

Chesterfield magistrates’ court heard on Tuesday, March 28, how Alyson Elizabeth Tate, 56, had been driving on Holmley Lane, Dronfield, in a Land Rover Freelander when there was a collision with a parked Audi.

Prosecuting solicitor Becky Allsop said: “There was a collision involving a Freelander driven by the defendant and a parked Audi and when police arrived Miss Tate was present and failed a roadside drink-drive test.”

Tate subsequently registered 62microgrammes of alcohol in 100millilitres of breath after a further test at a police station when the legal limit is 35microgrammes.

The defendant told police she had been to Crystal Peaks, seen friends, been to a pub in Dronfield and had consumed small glasses of wine and had eaten.

She added that she believed there had been a tyre blow-out before she collided with the parked car.

Tate, who has no previous convictions, pleaded guilty to exceeding the alcohol drink-drive limit after the collision on February 18.

Defence solicitor John Wilford said Tate, of Nether Oak Close, Sheffield, had been giving someone a lift home after she had been out with friends and the accident happened.

Mr Wilford added that the defendant has health concerns and losing her driving licence will make getting to medical appointments difficult.

Magistrates fined Tate £120 and ordered her to pay £85 in costs and a £30 victim surcharge.

The defendant was also banned from driving for 18 months but if she completes a drink-drive rehabilitation course the ban can be reduced by 19 weeks.
