Disley road closure part of £15m reservoir upgrade

United Utilities is midway through a two-year scheme to replace and increase the size of an underground storage reservoir at Jacksons Edge, which is around 100 years old.

The next stage of work will require the closure of Jacksons Edge Road in the village, from April 20 until June 8.

A spokesperson for United Utilities said: “We’re starting to bring back some of the material from the storage field to reinstate the area around the new tank.

“To do this safely, we need to temporarily close Jacksons Edge Road.

“We’ll ensure that access for residents and businesses is maintained, with a clearly signed diversion route in place to direct traffic along the A6.

“Like last time, chicanes will be installed on Light Alders Lane to help minimise speeding traffic.”

Upgrade work started in the summer of 2014 and includes construction of a new service reservoir with two concrete tanks, and the installation of a new overflow pipe.

State-of-the-art technology has been used to build sections of the new tanks in Ireland. They will eventually hold 18 million litres of water - the equivalent of eight Olympic-sized swimming pools.

Demolition of the old reservoir was scheduled to get underway last week.
