Sean Frayne will be awarded an unspecified amount of paid leave for the remaining ten months of his contract with Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service (DFRS).

In February, Mr Frayne was cleared of raping a woman at a Derbyshire pub in 2006 while his wife was in another room.

A jury took less than 15 minutes to find him not guilty.

Mr Frayne had not worked since March last year when he was arrested.

In a statement, DFRS said the 48-year-old, of Huddersfield, had been “offered the opportunity” to retire.

It added: “After careful consideration, Mr Frayne agreed to accept this offer and would like to thank DFRS for its support.”

Councillor Roland Hosker, chair of the fire service authority, said: “Sean Frayne has driven DFRS forward.
