Derbyshire teenagers will go head to head for place in final of telly's The Voice UK

Jack Algar and Frank Raven are aiming to be chosen as finalist for Team Tom and Danny.

Derbyshire’s talented teenage singers Jack Algar and Frank Raven will go head to head in telly’s The Voice UK semi-finals.

Chesterfield College A-level student Jack and former New Mills School pupil Frank will compete on Saturday, October 24. They are up against Ciiara Nix as all three battle it out for one of them to be chosen as Team Tom and Danny’s finalist.

In the battle stages, Jack appeared without his trusty guitar and sang Iris by the Goo Goo Dolls alongside fellow contender Adam Tucker. Frank sang Please Please Please by Sabrina Carpenter.

Their mentors Tom Fletcher and Danny Jones enlisted fellow McFly band members Dougie Poynter and Harry Judd to help choose the semi-finalists from the seven contenders.

Ahead of his performance in the battle stage, Jack said: “It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity so I’ve just got to make the most of it and do the best I can.”

Announcing the semi-finalists, Danny Jones told Jack: “You remind me of myself, you’re a young lad with a guitar, who plays really well, sings really well and today you absolutely smashed it.”

Frank said in his pre-performance interview: “I guess there is a mix of excitement and nerves but I’ve kind of convinced myself that none of this is real so it’s not really sunk in. I want to show off that I do actually do have a fun side when I’m performing.”

Tom Fletcher said after Frank’s performance: “That was really wicked. I think it really suited you that song, you sell a story so well. Harry Judd called Frank “seriously talented.”

Jack and Frank were just 17 when the series was shot last year.

Frank won Buxton’s Got Talent and will perform at the town’s Christmas lights switch-on on November 21.

Jack is lead singer in the band Derventio and is working towards four A-levels at college with the aim of going to university to study medicine.

*The Voice UK semi-final will be screened t at 8.35pm on ITV1 this Saturday, October 24 when a finalist from each of the four teams, mentored by Sir Tom Jones, will.ia.m, Kelly Rowland, Tom Fletcher and Danny Jones, will be chosen.
