Derbyshire: Police raise £2,000 through Three Peaks Challenge

Officers have raised more than £2,000 for charity after taking part in this year’s Three Peaks Challenge.

Sergeant Nick Reason, Sergeant Darren Pope, Sergeant Matt Winterbottom, PC Dave Pheasey and PC Keith Proudfoot teamed up to take on the challenge earlier this year on Saturday, July 26.

Since completing the gruelling climb, Enterprise Rent-A-Car has boosted what the team have already raised after handing over a £1000 cheque to the officers last week on Thursday, December 4.

The challenge involved participants attempting to climb the highest mountains of Scotland, England and Wales within 24 hours to raise money for a charity of their choice.

This included Ben Nevis, Scarfell Pike and Snowdon, totalling an estimated distance of 42 kilometres with a total ascent of 9,800 feet (3000m).

Sergeant Nick Reason from the Matlock Safer Neighbourhood Team said: “I would really like to thank the staff at Enterprise and our friends, family and colleagues for supporting us with this challenge and donating money to such a worthwhile cause.

“We completed the Three Peaks Challenge in just over 23 hours, it was difficult but a great team effort and we managed to raise over £2000 for charity.

“The money raised was donated to Cancer Research UK; a charity that we feel is close to everyone’s heart.

“We are already looking to take on the Four Peaks Challenge next year, covering Ireland, Scotland, England and Wales.”

Clare Beynon, Area Manager at Enterprise Rent-A-Car said: “When I received a request for help with their challenge I immediately thought of the Enterprise Foundation.

“We put a percentage of our profits aside each year to donate to charities that our employees and customers support. This fitted perfectly.

“It’s amazing to see the dedication from the police force to support such a great cause. We may even put a team together ourselves next year.”
