The current forecast is for gales on Friday evening and into Saturday and Sunday.

High winds could lead to difficult driving conditions, and could cause trees to be blown onto roads.

Extra teams of workers equipped with chainsaws on are standby over the weekend to deal with any problems.

Derbyshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Highways, Transport and Infrastructure, Councillor Dean Collins, said: “Please take care when you are out and about at the weekend, particularly if you are driving. If the winds are as strong as expected there could be many trees blown over, so take care when driving round corners just in case there is a tree down blocking the road.

“We’ve got even more workers on standby so that if we do have issues with trees down on the roads we have extra people to deal with them quickly.”
