Police probe into suspected arson attack in Chapel-en-le-Frith

Police are appealing for witnesses following a suspected arson attack in Chapel-en-le-Frith.

Emergency services were called to a fire at a flat on Market Street at around 12.34am yesterday (Thursday).

Fire crews from stations in Chapel-en-le-Frith, Whaley Bridge and Buxton tackled the blaze.

The flat was empty at the time, although neighbouring properties had to be evacuated as a precaution.

A spokesperson for Derbyshire Constabulary said: “An investigation was carried out and it is thought to have been started deliberately.”

Police would like to speak to members of the public who saw anyone in the vicinity of Market Street acting suspiciously just before midnight on Wednesday. Witnesses should call 101 quoting incident number 15 of Thursday June 5, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
