Man fined after stealing fuel

A man who stole £110 of diesel from a Peak District service station has been fined.

David Bunce was driving a Ford Transit van which pulled into the Sickleholme Service Station in Bamford at 8.40am on May 13, 2012, High Peak Magistrates’ Court heard.

Bunce filled the van up with £110.63 of diesel and then drove off without paying, prosecutor Sherrall Pickford said. In interview, he admitted the offence and said there was a second set of number plates in the back of the van which he had placed over the van’s genuine number plates before going to the service station with the intention of taking the petrol.

Bunce, 29, of Raisen Hall Road, Sheffield, admitted theft.

Kirsten Collings, defending, said: “The plates in the back of the van were opportunistic in that they were there.

“It was pre-meditated once he realised he hadn’t got the means to pay. He made full admissions when he spoke to the police.”

Bunce was fined £110, and ordered to pay £85 costs, a £15 surcharge and £110.63 compensation to the service station.
