Derbyshire driver 'hit pedestrian on zebra crossing'

Jean Davies was driving around the one-way system in Ripley in torrential rain when the incident occurred on December 12, Chesterfield Magistrates’ Court was told on Friday, February 21.

Prosecuting, Becky Allsop said that the victim was left with pins in her leg and a broken foot and was bed-ridden for four weeks following the collision.

She said: “In a victim impact statement, the woman said that the collision had but her in hospital for ten days away from her family and he will probably develop arthritis because of her injuries. She says she is still having flashbacks about the collision.”

She added that Davies, 64, of Danesby Drive, Denby, had stopped to let other traffic pass on the one way system, and had then pulled out and hit the pedestrian without seeing her at a speed of around 10mph.

Mitigating, Thomas Sherrington said: “At the time visibility was particularly poor and she had taken extra care. She is extremely remorseful about what’s occurred and the fact that she’s caused serious injuries to this lady. After the accident, she stayed with the victim while they waited for the police to attend.”

Davies, who admitted driving without due care and attention, was fined £80 and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £32 victim surcharge. Her licence was also endorsed with six penalty points.
