More than 200 trainees from the two college campuses came together for the first time this year for the annual Hair and Beauty Showcase Event where students from 13 different categories were given just half an hour to interpret a theme in front of a panel of judges and the live audience to show off their skills in hair and makeup.

Themes ranged from `Twisted Ways` featuring hair plaiting and twisting to ‘Vintage Delight’ giving make-up artistes the chance to use their imagination to produce a sophisticated vintage look on a live model.

Hair and Beauty Programme Co-ordinator Lorraine Hale said: “We have been building up to this event over recent months and the students were very nervous, especially those at Leek with it being the first time they have competed in the grandeur of the Dome.

“We are very proud of them all and they have commented that they really enjoyed the experience.”
