Cash stolen from 68-year-old at cashpoint in Glossop

A 68-year-old man had money stolen from his account as he went to draw it out from a cashpoint in Glossop.

The victim had inserted his card and PIN a Barclays cash machine in Norfolk Street, Glossop, at about 10.30am on Tuesday, April 26.

As he was about to select an amount to withdraw, a man walked up to him and started to shout at him.

The victim tried to push him away but the offender managed to press a button and stole the cash when it was dispensed.

The offender was described as being in his mid-20s, with short black hair, dark eyebrows, of slim but muscular build and a pointed nose. He wore a light baseball cap, a beige raincoat and grey trousers, and was carrying a rucksack.

He spoke with what was thought to be an Eastern European accent.

Police want to hear from any witnesses to the incident, or anyone who might recognise the description of the offender.

Officers are also reminding people to be vigilant when using cashpoints and to keep their personal safety in mind when withdrawing money.
