The 11-year-old met the author, who as well as scaling the world’s highest peak, has penned the Mortal Chaos series, when he came to his school Hulme Hall Grammar.

Matt enthralled the pupils at the Cheadle Hulme school with his tales of terrible danger, mortal peril and the extreme conditions including ‘white outs’ and risks of frostbite he had to endure during his expeditions.

Ludo said: “The talk was very interesting, I learnt a lot about going up mountains such as how altitude sickness can affect you and the dangers you might get into that I hadn’t considered before. Matt’s adventures were fascinating to listen to, he’s a great storyteller.”
