Buxton man fighting for his life after heart attack

Anthony Openshaw, 63, of Ferneydale Avenue, was taken to hospital by air ambulance on Sunday after collapsing on the kitchen floor at his home.

His wife, Wendy, 50, performed CPR for 20 minutes and helped to keep him alive.

Anthony’s daughter, Hollie, 23, said: “His heart stopped five times or more.

“He had been complaining of heart burn for a couple of weeks. Then on Sunday when my mum was going to take him to hospital he went down on the kitchen floor.

“He is hard working, caring, funny and everybody knows him.”

Mr Openshaw, a self-employed bricklayer, who has lived in Buxton for 20 years, is currently in intensive care in hospital in Stoke.

He has seven children and four grandchildren.

Mr Openshaw had been looking after his mum Valentina, 93, who has Alzheimer’s.

Hollie has set-up a fundraising page politely asking for any donations to help with the financial strain now that Mr Openshaw is not able to work.

Hollie, a mum-of-one, is keen to raise awareness of people learning CPR and finding out where the nearest defibrillator is.

“There is a defibrillator up the road but we did not know,” Hollie said.

“I’d like to say thank you to everyone who has donated so far.”
