Buxton man arrested after fatal crash

A Buxton man has been arrested after being involved in a crash which resulted in the death of a dad.

At approximately 5.20pm yesterday (June 7), emergency services received reports of a road traffic collision involving a blue Renault Clio and a cyclist on the A537 Buxton New Road near Macclesfield.

Following the collision, Guy Andrew Wharton, 46, from Bollington, died.

The driver of the car, a 41-year-old man from Buxton, was arrested by police and an investigation into the circumstances has commenced, Cheshire Constabulary said.

Paying tribute to Mr Wharton, his family said: “We are deeply shocked and saddened at the sudden and tragic loss of Guy, a loving father, husband, brother and son. He was a passionate cyclist and loved riding in the hills. He will be greatly missed.”
