Buxton Carnival programme packed full of fun

A bumper week of Buxton Well Dressing Festival events culminates on Saturday with Derbyshire’s biggest carnival.

The parade will start at 2pm from outside the train station and follow a route along Station Road, Spring Gardens, The Quadrant, St John’s Road, Burlington Road, West Road, High Street, Market Place and Terrace Road, finishing in the Crescent.

A Parade of Queens will take place afterwards at the Pavilion Gardens, where there will also be promenade entertainment, a duck race and live music throughout the afternoon.

Rounding off the well dressing festival on Sunday will be football competition at the Silverlands, and a church service at St Anne’s Church. The fair continues on the Market Place until Sunday.

Friday July 11

6.30pm - Car Treasure Hunt: starts at St Anne’s Well, The Crescent, 6.30pm. Entry £5 per car.

Saturday July 12

12pm - Street music from Pantonics Parade Band

12pm - Judging of parade classes at congregation area

1pm - Live concert at Portland Hotel with El-Vinos

1.05pm - Spitfire flypast

1.45pm - Buxton Carnival Day roadrace, starts New Wye Street (near Waitrose car park)

2pm - Start of carnival parade on Station Road. A Parade of Queens will take place at the Pavilion Gardens after the carnival parade has ended

3pm - Orchestra in the Park, at the Pavilion Gardens

4pm - Duck Race at the Pavilion Gardens

4pm - Promenade entertainment at the Pavilion Gardens

4.30pm - Carnival Concert on the bandstand in the Pavilion Gardens

Sunday July 13

2pm - Buxton Carnival Football Trophy at the Silverlands, 2pm kick-off. Admission free.

6pm - Church service at St Anne’s Church, Bath Road, to be attended by 2014 Buxton Wells Dressing Royalty.
