Barratt Developments, which owns homebuilders Barratt and David Wilson Homes, aims to recruit eight new apprentices to work across the East Midlands.

Encouraging both trade and professional development, the opportunities include four trade apprenticeships specialising in bricklaying or joinery, two technical roles transcending skills in engineering and design, and two commercial positions in quantity surveying and buying.

“As one of the country’s top developers we are absolutely committed to developing raw talent and I believe that we have a duty to provide these kinds of apprenticeship opportunities.”

Trade apprentices will be based on a housing development site and will learn skills in bricklaying or joinery from experienced tradespeople for four days a week.

They will also spend one day a week at college undertaking a qualifications in their chosen field.

Those undertaking an apprenticeship with the commercial team will join estimators, quantity surveyors and material buyers to help maintain costs.

Technical apprentices will join a team of engineers and architects to assist in all aspects of housing design and innovation. A diverse role, this will cover evaluating designs, ensuring the technical aspects and infrastructure for new developments is in place, and contributing towards the business challenges surrounding sustainability.

All programmes are well structured and tailored to individual needs. Apprentices will receive encouragement, support and guidance to help them develop, giving the skills and qualifications for a successful career.

Over the past three years, Barratt Developments has recruited 780 graduates, undergraduates, apprentices and trainees – more than any other major housebuilder in Britain, and plans to recruit a further 200 through ‘Future Talent’ programmes in 2016.
