“David is from the New Mills area and could be attempting to make his way back there despite having very little money on him. He is carrying a white NHS plastic bag.”

The 68-year-old is understood to have been recovering in hospital, after sustaining injuries in a collision with a large van while cycling along Station Road in Birch Vale in early January.

It prompted an appeal in the Advertiser by Derbyshire police to trace friends or relatives of the injured cyclist.

Anyone with information about Mr Ellison’s whereabouts is asked to contact police on 101.
