Agreement is reached over Chapel works

Residents and local councillors were up in arms after discovering that Long Lane was due to be closed for six months between June and December so that a new sewer could be installed for the Seddon development.

But after discussions between the company and locals, it has now been agreed to re-route the sewer, so that only a short section of Long Lane, from the housing development to the junction with Station Road, will need to be closed, with diversions in place via Cromwell Avenue and Alston Road.

A spokesperson from Seddon said: “We worked incredibly hard to develop proposals to avoid closing Long Lane for a long period of time and are delighted to be able to announce these new plans.”

Local ward councillor Stewart Young, who along with fellow councillors and High Peak MP Andrew Bingham has been fighting to reduce the disruption, said: “It has been a real collective effort and it just shows what can be done when the local community pulls together.”
