A-LEVELS: Top marks at New Mills

Staff at the business and enterprise college, on Church Lane, confirmed that a quarter of A level grades were an A* or an A.

The 60 year 13 students attained an overall pass rate of 99 per cent.

Headteacher Debbie McGloin said she was “delighted”, saying: “An awful lot of hard work goes into achieving results like these, both from the students and the staff not to mention the support of parents over the past two years.

“These grades are well deserved and hard earned, many of them spectacularly so, with more than a half of all grades awarded being at A*to B.”

High achievers included Victoria Greensmith, who attained two A* grades in art and media studies and an A grade in English language, Bethany Griffith, who was awarded two A* grades in art and English literature and a B grade in music, Tom Hardwick-Alan, who achieved A* in media studies an A in drama and a B in English language, and Delphi Macpherson, who received an A* in media studies, an A in English language and drama and a B in history.

All pupils at the Chuch Lane school who had submitted a university application secured a place at their first or second choice.

Other outstanding performers were Sam Mansfield who achieved 3 A grades, Poppy Philligreen (A*AAA), Sean Rogan (AAB), Finn Bridges (ABB), Emily Brooks (AAC), Lorenzo Llull Grimshaw (A*BB), Jack Martin (A*CC), Jemma Thomas (ABC) and Naomi Watkins (A*BB).

Poppy Philligreen and Sean Rogan were especially pleased to have secured the grades which will enable them both to study for the prestigious joint course at the Royal Northern College of Music and the University of Manchester.

Head of sixth form Nick Munn said: “I’m really pleased that all of our students got on the courses that they wanted and I have every confidence they will go on to fulfil their dreams and aspirations. As we always say to our students, all dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them!”
