A-LEVELS: High flyers in Hadfield

Speaking at from the school’s Hadfield site at Talbot House, Principal Steve Playford described the exam results of his 107 year 13 students as “as expected”.

He praised the fact that 17 per cent of the A-level exams sat resulted in A* to C grades, and that for the first time in the school’s history, 100 per cent of papers were graded A* to E. This means no pupil failed an A-level by receiving a U.

Mr Playford also highlighted that 95 per cent of his year 13 students who had applied for university, had received their first choice.

Rosa Chrystie-Lowe is the first Glossopdale Community College student to attend Oxbridge for many years.

She received two A*s in biology and English and an A in German, and has been accepted to Oxford to read English and German.

She said: “I’m really happy. I wasn’t expecting to get such good results. It’s been a brilliant year.”

In April, Rosa, a keen runner and swimmer, competed in the British Schools Modern Biathalon at the Olympic Park, finishing 15th out of 200 competitors.

Fellow star pupil Ella Newton turned down an offer at Cambridge to study maths at Warwick University.

She also received two A*s and an A, saying: “I’m really pleased, I didn’t think I was going to get in. I had to do an admissions test called a STEP but fortunately I passed.”

Alice Pike also received two A*s, attaining full marks in art and textiles, and an A in English, and will be starting an art foundation course at Manchester Metropolitan University next month.

Mr Playford added: “Some students get disappointed but my advice is to get in touch with our careers service. I’d like to thank all our staff and students for their hard work and parents for their support.”
