The county council are to recruit 130 catering assistants to help serve free meals to every child in reception, year one and year two. At the moment, only families on low incomes qualify for free meals. The move means catering staff across Derbyshire will be dishing up around 8,000 meals a day.

The part-time jobs will range from between five and 15 hours per week during term-time with vacancies across the county. Jobs will be advertised on the county council’s website www.derbyshire.gov.uk from March 31 and the closing date is April 27.

Catering assistants will help in the school’s kitchen and could be asked to prepare and serve food, clean surfaces and wash up. For more information, Call Derbyshire on 01629 533190.
