World's longest-running thriller heads to Derbyshire

The production, which is currently touring the UK, visits Chesterfield’s Pomegranate Theatre next week.

Louise, best known for her role as Leela in Doctor Who, is cast as Mrs Boyle who she describes as grumpy, retired and on her uppers.

Agatha Christie’s The Mousetrap has been the world’s longest running stage production at its London home since breaking the record in 1958 and has celebrated its 26,000th performance.

The production originally opened at Nottingham Theatre Royal in 1952 and starred the late Richard Attenborough.

Now on its first ever UK tour, which is running until August this year, The Mousetrap has been seen by nearly one million people and has broken box office records in many of its venues.

Productions of The Mousetrap have also been licensed worldwide and many of these have also broken records, from Cape Town to Philadelphia, Singapore to Sydney. During this period, the world’s longest running show will have been seen in every continent with professional productions in Australia, China, Korea, Turkey, South Africa, Russia, Czech Republic, Hungary, France, Germany, Holland, Italy, Poland, Spain, Scandinavia, Venezuela, and across the United States and Canada.

The Mousetrap runs at Chesterfield’s Pomegranate Theatre from March 7 to 12 at 7.30pm with matinees on Wednesday at 2pm and Saturday at 3pm.
