There is no better time to visit Derbyshire and the Peak District than over the autumn months – with the area offering everything from scenic views and historic landmarks to natural beauty spots and remarkable places to explore.
The places listed below are perfect destinations if you find yourself in Derbyshire and the Peak District over the coming weeks – is there anywhere else that you think should be included?

45. Buxton
The Romans were the first to discover the springs around Buxton, and they called the town ‘Aquae Arnemetiae' - ‘The Spa-Town of the Sacred Groves’. Buxton has been famous for its healing waters for centuries, and it can be sampled straight from the spring at St Ann's Well in the town centre. Photo: jason chadwick

46. Matlock Bath
Matlock Bath is one of the most scenic villages in Derbyshire, and is a popular destination for people visiting the county. The village became a hotspot for significant historical figures after warm springs were discovered in the late 1600s. Lord Byron visited and compared the area to alpine Switzerland, and the nickname of ‘little Switzerland’ was born. Photo: Brian Eyre

47. Riber Castle
Situated on a hilltop towering over Matlock, 19th century Riber Castle is one of Derbyshire’s most iconic landmarks. The Grade II listed building, which fell into disrepair, has recently started a brand new chapter in its rich history – being converted into 26 state-of-the-art luxury apartments. While this means you cannot visit the site itself or explore the castle, it is well worth a trip to Matlock to take in the sight of Riber Castle on the horizon. Photo: Brian Eyre

48. Bolsover Castle
Bolsover Castle was built in the 17th century, on the site of an earlier medieval castle - and has a number of great events running throughout the year. Photo: Brian Eyre
