This fascinating two-bed luxury apartment in a Peak District reservoir's former pumping house is on the market for £220,000 – take a look inside

A two-bedroom luxury apartment inside the Ladybower Dam’s former pumping station is on the market with an asking price of £220,000.

The split-level flat – one of more than 30 spacious apartments in the historic stone building off Ashopton Road near Bamford – includes an en-suite master bedroom, a living kitchen and gated off-road parking.

Decades ago the dam flooded the villages of Derwent and Ashopton, creating the Ladybower Reservoir. It was completed in 1945, and while residents were rehoused, many buildings remained standing.

Panelling for the apartments was removed from an Elizabethan hall which was submerged beneath the water and installed in the office when the pumping house, now called Ladybower Lodge, was opened.

The residential development was launched in 2003 and proved popular straight away – 50 per cent of the apartments were sold on the first phase of the scheme in October of that year.

Estate agent ELR, which is handling the sale of the two-bed apartment, says the location is ‘superb’ and the property comes with access to a communal gym.

The Yorkshire Bridge filter house dates back to 1927 and went out of use in 1988.

It was the subject of a number of planning applications before becoming flats – initially there were proposals to turn it into a residential care home or a visitors’ centre.
