Derbyshire GP surgery issues coronavirus update to patients following closure

A Derbyshire GP suregery has issued an update after closing due to a confirmed case of coronavirus.

Patients were this morning advised not to attend Buxton Medical Practice, on Temple Road, in Buxton, which has said it is liaising with Public Health England and the CCG (clinical commissioning group) to ‘ensure all appropriate actions are taken’.

It has now revealed it hopes to open tomorrow following a deep clean.

“Just a quick update to say we have talked to Public Health England and their advice is that we should be able to open tomorrow after a deep clean today,” it said.

“We are also advised that there is currently no need for additional testing for patients or staff. Thank you for your patience.”

The practice previously advised patients requring essential medical care today or who have any coronavirus-related concerns to call the NHS 111 helpline.

A spokesman for Public Health England said: “We do not provide a running commentary on contact tracing. Our Health Protection Team are identifying close contacts of all confirmed cases, and will be in touch to offer advice to anyone that they identify.”

NHS Derby and Derbyshire Clinical Commissioning Group said the practice had closed temporarily as a ‘routine precautionary measure’.

Burbage Primary School in Buxton has also been closed for a deep clean following a confirmed case of coronavirus ‘among the parent population’.

Health chiefs have not confirmed whether this was the same case which led to the medical practice closing.
