Over 90 people have died from coronavirus in Derbyshire care homes, new figures reveal

There have 98 coronavirus related deaths at care home facilities in Derbyshire according to information reported to the Care Quality Commission, (CQC) – the Office for National Statistics said.

The data released today, documents every instance care home providers across Derbyshire reported a suspected or confirmed Covid-19 death between April 10 to May 1 to the CQC.

In England, a total of 6,391 people have died in care homes after testing positive for the coronavirus.

It comes after two more coronavirus patients are confirmed to have died at Chesterfield Royal Hospital today, according to figures released by NHS England this afternoon.

There have now been 85 people who have died at the Royal after contracting the virus.

Figures reveal there are currently 1,835 confirmed Covid-19 cases in Derbyshire, with 1,331 in Derbyshire county and 504 people who have tested positive in Derby city.

The total number of people who have died from coronavirus in hospitals across England, has risen to 21, 750.

It is as the government announced trials for the NHS Covid-19 contact tracing app are beginning on the Isle of Wight this week.

Politicians are urging people on the island to download the app in order to slow the spread of the virus and prevent further deaths.

At least 50 percent of the population on the Isle of Wight need to use the software for the trial to be effective and then rolled out nationwide.
