The MP says although confirmed cases in the rest of the borough were ‘significantly lower’ than Glossopdale - now under new measures - he added ‘if cases start rising the rest of High Peak will go into Tier 2’.

The new rules for tier 2 mean a ban on households mixing indoors in any setting.

Non-essential shops, pubs and restaurants will remain open - although under the same rules regarding people from different households.

Robert told how the borough had been split to correspond with different NHS trusts - with Manchester’s Tameside having responsibility for towns such as Glossop and Hadfield.

The new Tier 2 lockdown comes as cases increased by as much as 38 over the last seven days in Hadfield West and Gamesley alone.

However Chapel-en-le Frith and Hope Valley recorded nine cases and Buxton North recorded just seven.

Speaking after Monday’s announcement Robert said: “Numbers are significantly higher in the Glossopdale area compared to places like Buxton, New Mills and Whaley Bridge.

“It’s highly unusual for a local authority to be split like this but this is under constant review and if there is an increase in cases in the rest of the High Peak it will go into Tier 2.

“So we need to keep following Government guidance, wearing masks, washing hands and social distancing.”

The MP said he hoped by following Government guidelines ‘we can keep cases down, flatten the curve and bring the virus under control’.

He added: “Just because you’re in Tier 1 do not think you can do whatever you want.”

The affected area of Glossopdale covers the SK13 postcode including: Glossop, Hadfield, Simmondley, Dinting, Padfield, Tintwistle, Gamesley, Charlesworth, Chisworth, Chunal, Moorfield and Crowden.

Although households in Tier 2 areas are banned from mixing indoors socially-distanced groups of six can meet outdoors.

Travel to places elsewhere in the UK is allowed so long as local restrictions in those places are obeyed

You can leave the county and local authority area but you cannot travel to a neighbouring county in order to mix households there.
