High Peak records sharpest increase of Covid-19 cases in Derbyshire

There were 24 new cases in the borough between July 18 and July 31 – while North East Derbyshire has the second-highest increase with 11 new cases.
Reacting to the alarming rise Derbyshire’s Director of Public Health Dean Wallace is urging High Peak people to ‘stay alert’.

Hide AdRecords show 437 cases of coronavirus in High Peak between February 25 and July 31.
The highest rates of infection have been in Buxton North, followed by Hadfield East and Tintwistle and central Glossop.
Compared with High Peak over the last fortnight Derbyshire’s third highest increase in cases has been in Amber Valley - where there were nine new cases - followed by Bolsover and South Derbyshire with eight.
Chesterfield and Derbyshire Dales had seven cases and six cases respectively and Erewash has had the lowest number with five.

Hide AdMr Wallace says it is ‘vital’ everyone stays home if they can, maintains social distancing and washes their hands regularly.
The warning comes after a major incident was declared in Greater Manchester - which contains seven of England’s worst affected local authority areas for Covid-19 infections out of the top 20.
New rules in Manchester ban members of two different households from mixing in pubs, restaurants and other hospitality venues.
Mr Wallace added: “We would expect a small rise given the close proximity to the areas affected by the extra restrictions but I’d like to reassure residents we’re closely monitoring the situation and will take action if needed.”
