High Peak MP ‘disappointed’ over Tier 3 restrictions

High Peak MP Robert Largan says he is ‘disappointed’ the borough has been placed under Tier 3 restrictions along with the rest of Derbyshire.

However he added: “While cases have fallen in most of High Peak, cases are still too high and there is significant pressure on our local NHS.”

His comments came as it emerged today (Thursday) that all but three English regions - Cornwall, Isle of Wight and Isles of Scilly - would be placed in either tiers 2 or 3.

In Tier 3 areas pubs, bars and restaurants will have to close and will only be allowed to serve alcohol or meals as takeaway or delivery.

“It is vital that the council pays out the support grants to businesses as a matter of urgency and gets the discretionary grant scheme up and running quickly.

“I know this is really frustrating and worrying but, with several promising vaccines on the horizon and with cases moving in the right direction I am confident we will get through this.”

In October High Peak was placed in Tier 2 high alert lockdown – where the rule of six applies outdoors but there is no household mixing anywhere indoors.

However under Tier 3 households are only allowed to mix in outdoor public spaces like parks.
