Buxton Junior School kids get creative with lockdown cookbook

The 40-page booklet - on sale for £5 - is helping raise funds for cooking equipment in the school's new kitchen.

Inside are instructions for everything from cakes and biscuits to pizzas, soups, sausage rolls and shrimp pasta salad - with over 20 dishes on offer.

Dreamed up during the summer term in the first lockdown, the book was drafted by Christmas and is now available to the public to help keep kids busy while at home.

Step-by-step instructions are provided along with photos of each creation as the finished product.

The book was produced with the help of Buxton Junior School’s Parents, Teachers and Friends Association.

Treasurer Laura Bowers described how recipes were divided into sections - with her own little one, Maisie, 10, whiling away fun-filled hours making shortbread Egyptian pyramids.

Laura said: “The idea came about as part of homeschooling and getting them involved in cookery but also as a way to raise money.

“It gave parents a nice bit of inspiration for things to do at home and we had a great response.

“Times have been quite hard this past year and this has been a good way for many people to get involved in school life.”

There are 100 copies of Buxton Junior School’s lockdown cookbook available - with half that number already sold.
