Buxton pub’s first defibrillator follows arrival of new management

A new defibrillator has been installed in Buxton.
It is after the High Street pub won a competition with Dove Holes company High Peak Comps.
The piece of kit, which could save someone’s life following cardiac arrest, was installed on Tuesday, March 3.

The win on the ‘High Peak Comps defibrillator wheel’ comes just a few weeks after the historic Buxton pub gained The Winstanley Family as new publicans.
“The Swan is a pillar of the community in Buxton”, said High Peak Comps’ longest-serving employee Callen Deighan.
“They do loads for charity, and have recently been taken over by pro darts players who have created a wonderful atmosphere at the pub.
“While we hope this defibrillator should never have to be used, we have enjoyed working with The Swan to get this piece of life-saving equipment installed.

“Not only is the pub able to benefit from this, but the town’s central location and prominent position outside will make this an easy to remember and easy defibrillator to find on The Circuit, should it ever be needed.”
High Peak Comps is a local community-focused online prize draw company, who initiated a project to install over 10 public-access defibrillators across the High Peak area in 2025.
And now, they have decided to revive the project for 2026 by appealing to the High Peak community for nominations for a potential defibrillator location.
With over 20 nominations, the odds were slim, however, the Buxton pub The Swan was the first winner of the High Peak Comps defibrillator wheel in 2026.

According to Explore Buxton, the Grade-II listed Higher Buxton pub dates back to 1765.
In the early Victorian years, the pub was known as The Shoulder of Mutton. And in the 2020s, The Swan will now be known as one of many Buxton pubs with the piece of life-saving kit.
High Peak Comps was established in 2020 by Buxton resident Charles Edwards.
“Over the years we have had many meetings and giveaways at pubs in Buxton and know how vital they are to the community”, said Charles.
“So we are delighted to install the first High Peak Comps defibrillator at a pub, and the first for 2025.
“This is the 10th defibrillator we have paid for to be installed locally overall, and we want to do loads more in 2026!
“We do not want this defibrillator to ever be used, but we are pleased to say that it is in a 24/7 accessible, outdoor location in the heart of Higher Buxton.
“Cheers to I D Electrical and Security for installing and to the new team at The Swan for being amazing.”
