Fashion & Fizz is the biz for charity

The Old Hall Hotel presented a cheque for £903 to members of international charity Meningitis Research Foundation during their 25th anniversary walk through the Peak District last week, as a result of a Fashion and Fizz evening held in April.

The hotel has held this annual event for the past three years alongside retailers from the Cavendish Arcade including Unique Feet, Divine Trash, Vintage Rose and Bella Borsa, who provided a fashion show.

Guests were also treated to a fish and chip supper with a glass of fizz served by topless waiters, and entertainment from local Burlesque group Absinthe Rose.

Sally Potter, General Manager of The Old Hall Hotel, said: “ This is the third year we have held a Fashion and Fizz evening with the aim of having fun, showcasing local shops and raising money for local charities.”

Earlier this year, the hotel was approached by Sally Heyworth, whose daughter Macy died of Group B Streptococcal Meningitis and Septicaemia in 2006 when she was aged ten weeks old.

“Sally asked if we’d be willing to raise funds for Meningitis Research Foundation as they have supported her since Macy passed away,” Ms Potter explained.

“As it is the 25th anniversary of the charity and they were passing through Buxton on their anniversary walk it seemed the perfect time to support them.”

Chris Head, Chief Executive of Meningitis Research Foundation, said: “We are so grateful to Sally, her sister Emma and all the local retailers for organising this event and raising such a great sum of money.

“It was nice to meet them during our anniversary walk through the Peak District and the hotel provided much-needed beds and a bath for the night.

“As a charity we rely heavily on donations from local businesses and members of the public so the money raised from Fashion and Fizz will ensure we can continue to fund vital research into this terrible disease and support families like Sally’s who lose a loved one or are left to deal with life-changing aftereffects.”
