Royal Liverpool Philharmonic celebrate 175th anniversary with 56-piece orchestra concert in Buxton

Classical music lovers are in for a treat this week as the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra perform a special concert at Buxton Opera House.

One of the UK’s oldest surviving classical music societies; Royal Liverpool Philharmonic is currently in residency at Buxton Opera House & Pavilion Arts Centre and on Friday, their huge 56-piece orchestra will offer a programme of Mozart and Mendelssohn that according to organisers ‘positively dances with joy’. The famous Marriage of Figaro overture by Mozart will launch the programme which also includes Symphony No.35 ‘Haffner’ and Mendelssohn’s sun-drenched Symphony No.4 ‘Italian’.

The final concert to conclude the Royal Liverpool Residency in Buxton will be on Wednesday December 9 at 1pm in the format of the regular lunchtime Coffee Concerts held at the Pavilion Arts Centre. Featuring James Clark, violin and Joint-Leader of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic and Jonathan Aasgaard, Principal Cellist, the programme will include music by Ravel and Glière. The event will also include a talk with Jonathan Aasgaard.

Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra with Julian Rachlin will take place on Friday November 27 at 7pm at Buxton Opera House. There will be a free pre-concert talk in the auditorium from 5.45pm to 6.15pm with Julian Rachlin.Tickets are priced at £12.50 to £32.50. A Gardens Ticket (£45) is also available, offering central seats in the Dress Circle and Upper Circle, together with pre-show and interval hospitality.

The Coffee Concert with James Clark and Jonathan Aasgaard will take place at the Pavilion Arts Centre on Wednesday December 9 at 1pm. Tickets are priced at £7 in advance.
