How to Relax in Andalucia is a comedy play set in a backpackers’ hostel in Southern Spain.

The play was first performed in Salford in April 2012 and went on to be well-received at the Buxton Festival Fringe later that year.

Since then, the play has under gone considerable re-writing and development.

Cheshire playwright John Waterhouse said: “How to Relax in Andalucia is my seventh full-length play to come to the stage and, as with most of my other plays, is inspired by travel experiences.

“My main influences are 60s and 70s British film and television comedy, with a love of classic radio comedy (in particular Hancock’s Half Hour and Round the Horne) and the earlier classic artists such as Laurel and Hardy, Will Hey and Norman Wisdom, harking back to times when there was less cynicism in comedy, with the emphasis essentially on entertaining and uplifting the audience.”

How to Relax in Andalucia follows the recently redundant and divorced Peter on a one-man mission to find solitude and relaxation by the pool while on holiday in Spain.

But his plans are scuppered by the arrival of three backpackers - Carol, the ex-girlfriend of an English gangster, Saskia, an annoyingly friendly Dutch woman and Mick, a loud-talking, hard drinking Australian - along with a curious detective from England.

Tickets for How To Relax In Andalucia at The Art Theatre, Jodrell Street, New Mills, on Friday June 28, at 7.30pm, are priced £10 for adults and £8 for concessions.
