High Peak film clips to be aired alongside blockbuster movies

Lyme Park in Disley is to host popular movies The Imitation Game and Bridget Jones’ Diary on September 23 and 24 respectively, the latter suitable for viewers aged 15 years and over.

The clips from bygone years will include a compelling ‘phantom ride’ through Glossop shortly before the Great War, in a 1912 film from the Media Archive for Central England.

Heading deeper into the Peak District, a 1930 newsreel captures a peaceful protest at Winnats Pass - an important step in the long struggle to open up Britain’s countryside to the public.

There will also be a glimpse of the 1904 May Day celebration in Knutsford.

These previously unseen films are part of Britain on Film, a new British Film Institute project that reveals hidden histories and forgotten stories of people and places from th UK’s key film and TV archives. They are available for free on BFI Player.

Ten feature film screenings are being hosted at National Trust locations around the country this summer.

Hardwick Hall, near Chesterfield, will be the venue for screenings of The Full Monty, and above, and Shakespeare In Love on September 5 and 6 respectively. Both films suitable for 15 years and above.
