Choirs serve up a musical feast

With its wonderful acoustics, St John’s Church will echo the spine-chilling sounds of over 100 male voices as both choirs, individually and en-mass, will perform a diverse programme of songs that will offer something for everyone.

Felling Male Voice Choir, based in the North East of England, has been performing throughout the UK and Europe since 1920, promoting male voice singing by developing a increasingly wider repertoire, with music from Palestrina to the popular, from local folk to global music.

Also joining them for the performance on Saturday April 12, at 7.30pm, will be Kieron-Connor Valentine, a superb soloist who first appeared as a guest of the Tideswell choir alongside the Military Wives at Buxton Opera House last October.

A classical crossover counter tenor studying with David Lowe at the Royal Northern College of Music, Valentine has sung at major UK venues including the Royal Albert Hall and Cadogan Hall. He is also an award-winning soloist, having won prizes at Llangollen International Eisteddfod and the National Eisteddfod of Wales.

Under the direction of Dennis Kay, Principal Conductor and Director of Music, Tideswell Male Voice Choir will provide an unforgettable evening of musical entertainment containing a feast of popular contemporary pieces.

With Christopher Ellis, the choir’s Principal Accompanist, also performing a sample of his own repertoire, the evening is sure to engage and enthral.
