Buxton-based label releases first single

A High Peak entrepreneur, who started his studio in a bedroom and grew it into a high-octane record label with an in-house studio and producer has launched his label’s first single.

Matt Taylor, the brains behind Buxton-based MST Sounds released the single Strawberries & Stars/Cookie by Charlie Hughes as a download on July 17.

He said: “By our estimations, we sold close to 1,000 downloads in three days.”

The single will be available on vinyl in August.

Matt added: “Our sound is a unique but also familiar one, reminiscent of the records from the 60s and 70s brought forward into the light of today. All of our tracks are recorded in house, using tape – all in High Definition.

“The spirit of our collective, and its bands, is and has always been centred in our DIY ethic, true to the Joe Meek, Northern Soul and punk ethos.

“The label works more like a “co-op”, where the artists and the label work close together to help achieve impressive success within the industry. This close relationship with its artists may seem unusual, but it provides a strong creative culture throughout every part of the label. “

Matt has worked with the likes of This is Seb Clarke & The Novellos from SONS Records.
