Author Greg Watts returns to Wirksworth to give talk at arts festival

A London author who grew up in Wirksworth will be speaking about his memoir at the town’s arts festival this weekend.

Greg Watts, whose book The Long Road Out of Town describes his teen years in Wirksworth in the 1970s, will be in conversation with BBC Radio Derby’s Andy

Potter at the Northern Light Cinema.

Since leaving Wirksworth and moving to London, Greg has become a successfulauthor and journalist. He has written biographies about Rembrandt, Mother Teresa

and former gangsters, and has also worked for The Times and London’s EveningStandard.

He said: “I’m delighted to be invited to take part in the arts festival. It’s a chance for me to connect with my roots in Wirksworth. Since leaving it all those years ago, I now havea great affection for it and also for Matlock, where I worked at Drabble’s mill.
