BRIJOMI QUEEN
Musselburgh 3.20 WIN
Lake District trainer Nicky Richards needs cheering up because he has just been banned from driving after he was caught speeding at 100mph. This five-year-old filly could be the horse to do it if she builds on the promise she showed on her sole start last season when winning a Bumper at Kelso. The well-bred daughter of King’s Theatre upset a hot favourite in Donald McCain’s Doyly Carte, who has established herself as a useful novice hurdler this term. One of several talented youngsters at Richards’s famous Greystoke yard, Brijomi Queen must shoulder a 7lb penalty today for her win, but that is offset by the 10lb claim of up-and-coming jockey Brian Treanor. From his limited number of mounts, Treanor has a fine record for Richards, who himself boasts a healthy strike-rate at Musselburgh and has saddled the winner of this race before.
