New apprenticeship roles offering excellent career potential have been announced at Tarmac in Buxton

Applications are now open for life-changing opportunities to become an apprentice with one of the best-known brands in the county.

Tarmac, a CRH company, is the UK’s leading sustainable building materials and construction solutions business.

Now, its Tunstead division at Buxton is recruiting electrical maintenance and mechanical maintenance apprentices, for a 48 month training programme beginning this September which lets young people ‘earn while they learn’.

By working with a highly experienced team and with opportunities to develop a sustained and interesting professional career post-apprenticeship, the roles are a seriously good alternative to university. If you like working with your hands, problem-solving, untangling tech problems and working outdoors, this could be the role for you.

About the jobs

These apprenticeships are a gateway to the future, a chance to learn engineering and maintenance from the ground up. They come with a competitive salary, further opportunities at the end of the programme, 26 days holiday and bank holidays, a contributory pension scheme and various other rewards and bonus schemes.

The training takes place full-time at a local engineering centre for at least 30 weeks, then through a mixture of day release to college and on-site training.

Apprentices will work Monday to Friday, for 40 hour a week.

Are you due to leave school or sixth form this summer? If you love stripping bikes and rebuilding them, tinkering with gadgets and figuring out how things work, you already have the makings of an electrical and/or mechanical craftsperson. Supported by Tarmac’s training scheme, this could be the most rewarding career decision you will ever make; you don’t need to know everything, you just need to be enthusiastic and willing to learn.

Darren Page, early careers manager at Tarmac said: “A career at Tarmac isn’t just a job, it’s a chance to shape the world we live in. Our apprenticeship programmes provide relevant hands-on experience, first class learning and development, and outstanding support.”

The ideal candidates will have excellent communication skills, a drive to succeed and the ability to work as part of a team.

As the Tunstead plant is located outside of Buxton and not easily accessible by public transport, successful candidates will need to the means of getting there. Transport is provided from the site to the local college.

The closing date for applications is May 31, 2023.
