It’s panto time in Buxton - oh yes it is!
The curtain rose this lunchtime (Thursday) for Buxton Opera House’s traditional family pantomime, Cinderella, marking the start of a busy three-week run at the Water Street venue.
An all-star cast has been assembled for the classic rags-to-riches tale by Channel Theatre Productions, following on from the rave reviews received nationally for last year’s pantomime production Peter Pan.
Jake Randall, from Buxton Opera House, said: “This year’s pantomime promises a feast of entertainment which will delight the whole family from start to finish.
“Families and schools continue to come back year after year, because of the sheer quality of the production.”
Among the stars of Cinderella are Sarah Thomas, of Last of the Summer Wine fame, as the magical Fairy Godmother, and Jonny Freeman, best known as school caretaker Frank London in CBBC’s MI High, as the loveable Buttons.
Sarah added: “The script is beautifully written and jumped off the page from the first reading. We can’t wait to bring the show to life at the opera house.”
Olivia Sloyan, fresh from the acclaimed West End musical Blood Brothers, returns to the opera house in the title role, after her memorable performance as Snow White in the theatre’s 2011 pantomime.
The show will also welcome back some of the best young dancers in the area to perform routines to hit songs. And there will be a generous helping of comedy for all the family in the shape of two dames as the Ugly Sisters.
Cinderella will be performed at the opera house from Thursday December 12 until Wednesday January 1.
