SIX HUNDRED thousand people went to the Isle of Wight in August 1970 to see the only real legendary rock guitarist the world has ever seen – Jimi Hendrix. How could anyone possibly measure up to him?

Well, when you listen to Are You Experienced? featuring John Campbell, you very quickly realise that it can be done!

Are You Experienced - A Tribute to Jimi Hendrix comes to Buxton Opera House on Thursday April 19, at 7.30pm.

The guitar work is note perfect, and at the same time beautifully fluent.

The voice is Hendrix, and the persona of the man himself is on the stage, personified by Campbell, who bears a striking physical resemblance to Jimi, and who replicates all the famous stage antics, including playing the guitar with his teeth and behind his head.

“My musical influences include James Brown and Thin Lizzy, but it was Jimi Hendrix who really captured my imagination,” said Campbell.

He founded ‘Are You Experienced?’ ten years ago, and together with bass guitarist Mark Arnold and drummer Kevin O’Grady they have played throughout Europe and Dubai, as well as constantly touring in the UK.

If you were fortunate enough to have seen Jimi Hendrix, and thought you’d never see the like again – well, this is a dream come true.

And if you never saw Hendrix, and wish that you had, then you can spend an evening with John Campbell, and experience what it was all about.

Tickets for Are You Experienced? - A Tribute to Jimi Hendrix, priced £14.50 and £16.50, are available from the Buxton Opera House Box Office on 0845 127 2190 or online at
